Passes for Families
All You Need To Know
As a family-friendly nation, Singapore offers eligible work pass holders various passes, either a Dependant's Pass (DP) or a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP), to bring their family members into the country for an extended stay. These are important considerations, especially if families need to relocate to Singapore due to work circumstances, opportunities for a better life, or joining others in their family who are living in Singapore. These passes need to be applied by the work pass holder's employer or their third-party agent. Understanding the eligibility and requirements ensure a smooth transition for you and your loved ones. We can help manage these immigration-related tasks for you and your company. Contact us today to discuss your requirements.
Dependant's Pass (DP)
The Dependent's Pass (DP) Visa allows work pass holders to bring certain family members to Singapore. A DP holder can live in Singapore. Furthermore, with the proper approval, a DP holder can work and study in Singapore.
Family members who can apply include:
-
Legally married spouse
-
Unmarried children under 21 years old, including legally adopted children
Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)
Unlike the Dependant's Pass, the Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) is designed for family members who don't qualify for the Dependant's Pass. Fulfilling certain specific conditions are needed when applying this pass for their parents.
Family members who can apply include:
-
Common-law spouse
-
Unmarried disabled children aged 21 years and above
-
Unmarried step-children under 21 years old
-
Parents - only for those earning a monthly salary of at least S$12,000
Difference between a Dependant's Pass (DP) and a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)
-
Dependant’s Pass holders enjoy similar benefits as their main pass holder in terms of healthcare, education and access to housing. They can also apply for permanent residency. However, LTVP holders are not entitled to the same benefits as Dependant’s Pass holders, but they are eligible to stay in Singapore for a longer period of time and have more flexibility in terms of their stay in the country.
-
A Dependant’s Pass is usually valid for the same duration as the main pass holder's work visa. In comparison, an LTVP can be issued for up to 2 years initially, and is renewable thereafter.
-
Dependant’s Pass is only available for family members of Employment Pass or S Pass holders while LTVP is available for a wider range of family members of pass holders, Singapore Citizens (SC) or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR).
-
Dependant’s Pass holders can work with a separate work visa, while LTVP holders are not allowed to work in Singapore.
Eligibility to apply for a Dependant's Pass (DP) or Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)
As a foreigner, you may be eligible to apply to bring your family members under these passes if you:
-
Hold an Employment Pass (EP), S Pass, Entrepreneur Pass (EntrePass), Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass (ONE Pass) or Personalized Employment Pass (PEP)
-
Earn a minimum fixed monthly salary of $6,000. For sponsored parents under LTVP, at least $12,000
-
Are sponsored by an established, Singapore-registered company (usually the employer)
For dependants of Entrepreneur Pass (EntrePass) or Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass (ONE Pass) holders, different set of requirements apply.
For Singapore Citizens (SC) or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR), there is no specific requirement to sponsor family members under LTVP, except SC or PR sponsor must be above 21 years old to sponsor their parents. Parent(s)-in-law are not eligible to apply for a LTVP.
